What do the picture editors say?
David Ofield, Picture Editor, London Evening Standard and new Chairman of the Judges at the UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards (attending for the first time this year)
“I very much like the look of the diverse exhibitors listed and will be taking a couple of hours away from the picture desk that day to meet the agencies. I encourage all picture editors and picture researchers to do the same."
Alan Sparrow, Picture Editor, Metro and Chairman of the UK Picture Editors’ Guild:
“I loved the show last year, just what the industry needs. No time-wasting and great way to find the unexpected material held in the familiar sources, as well as completely new ones.”
Jackie Swanson, Picture Editor, Country Living Magazine:
“One of the many things that stood out for me was that everyone seemed to be genuinely enjoying the event.  No gimmicks, no display boards, limited promotional material and just everyone sitting at tables relaxed and chatting.  Surely the best way to do business.  I definitely made more meaningful and useful contacts at last year's fotofringe than at any event I've been to previously.  And it's always great to catch up with old friends.”
The first ever fotofringe London was in May 2011....
“A first of its kind networking event for picture buyers and photo agencies launched with huge success last week. fotofringe London ran for one day and provided picture buyers access to 55 independent photo agencies and stock libraries”.
About the Image review

“The event was successful in many ways; the number of exhibitors wanting to participate, the number of buyers who came, the optimistic and professional atmosphere that abounded, and a sense that there was a lot of business going on. And, as many people noted, it was “fantastic to have no time wasters!”

Quote-Unquote: feedback from picture-using visitors who attended the first fotofringe 2011
“I liked the informal, open nature of the event”
“Great venue, good to catch up with lots of old (metaphorically of course!) faces but also very useful to see some other niche collections which I didn't know much about or hadn't used before.”
“Here are my thoughts on the event:
- The visit was definitely of value as a picture buyer and I would attend if it was on again.
- Great venue.
- It was a nice change; I actually preferred the lower key, informal approach. It felt more democratic and I can imagine it takes the pressure of the libraries to invest a lot of time and money into their displays. It encouraged you to get closer to the tables and speak to those you might not have done if they had booths and big banners.”
“I want to congratulate you on a really good event.  I really liked the fact that you restricted the amount of bumph and freebies that people brought as I have to confess that in previous years I've gone home from the BAPLA PBF and thrown a huge amount straight in the recycling which always feels such a waste.  In the last couple of years I've just had a no-paper policy and come home with a couple of pens and a small handful of business cards, a chilli plant and no guilt! You and your team should be congratulating yourselves on putting on an excellent and useful show, so thank you very much.”
“Attended the fotofringe and found it great. Good central venue, great set up and agencies said to me it was a cost effective option for them which has been a problem in the past. I also liked the table set up; you could sit down and talk to the agencies which you just can't do hawking around a stand!”
“I liked the venue - and the fact the stands weren't too big, meant that there was a good chance you wouldn't miss seeing any of the libraries.  Everyone was visible.”
“I found this a better way of getting around to having a chat with the people I wanted to talk to and liked the location. Nice not to have to stand for so long. Much more relaxed.”
“You organised it well and I enjoyed seeing everyone which is enormously helpful to business.”
“The event seemed to be very well run and I was impressed at the number of libraries attending.  Thanks very much for organising.”
“Great venue and good atmosphere, also the event benefitted from not being too big.”
“It was very helpful. I thought it was more democratic somehow without the fancy pitches! Very easy to wander around and see who you needed to see plus others.  Well set up for discussion. “
“Yes, would like you to run it again. An excellent choice of venue. See you next year and many thanks for organizing it.”
“It was a successful day – good to re-visit contacts and make new ones and to get informed with the latest news in the industry”
“Great event, great venue – thanks!”
“It was a lovely, relaxed networking day. Everyone I spoke to thought it an excellent venue. It was great - thanks Flora!”
